# Lacuna Scanner Service

The **Lacuna Scanner Service** is a microservice that lets you add document scanning to your existing web application, with the following
features:

* Compliance with [Decree No. 10,278 of March 18, 2020](http://www.planalto.gov.br/ccivil_03/_Ato2019-2022/2020/Decreto/D10278.htm) (in Portuguese), the Brazilian
  regulation on scanning public and private documents so that the scanned documents have the same legal effect as the originals
* Requires minimal changes to your existing application
* Scanning is done directly from the browser
* Helps keep the chain of custody intact, since scanned documents are sent directly to your system without first being stored on the
  computer of the person scanning them
